Common error codes and what to do about them.
Error codes
| Code | Usually means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
PAYLOAD_UNAVAILABLE | Storage did not return the object | Check the adapter and replicas; do not substitute another payload |
PAYLOAD_INTEGRITY_FAILED | Retrieved bytes do not match the commitment | Treat the copy as corrupt; recover from a verified replica or an earlier checkpoint |
INVALID_CHECKPOINT_LINEAGE | Parent does not match the chain head | Another process submitted, or a recovery moved the head; re-read the head |
CHECKPOINT_NOT_FINALIZED | Confirmations did not arrive in time | The SDK does not resubmit; check the transaction and retry the step |
EXTERNAL_ACTION_STATUS_UNKNOWN | An action has no definitive outcome | Answer the reconciler from the external system; never retry blindly |
STATE_SCHEMA_INCOMPATIBLE | Stored state is newer, or has no migration | Deploy the matching application version, or add a migration |
UNAUTHORIZED | The sender is not an executor of the workflow | Check the executor set on-chain |
EXECUTION_HALTED | The workflow is paused on-chain | Resolve the recovery or unpause as the owner |
Local setup
- Contract tests need most of a small machine's memory; run
npx hardhat testalone, or narrow it with--grep. - The console reads only the contract and data store you configure; it never fetches a URL chosen by a workflow owner.
